Meth
addiction is an often debilitating addiction that can cause not only
emotional problems, but severe medical problems with prolonged use. The
treatment for meth addiction then should not be taken lightly or
something that someone goes into half heartedly. Unfortunately, most
meth addicts are either low income families living in inner cities or
young adults looking for that "rush" so they are not looking to quit on
their own.
On the upside of this is the rise of Drug Rehab
Centers that focus completely on the methamphetamine addict. These
centers are popping up all over the country and have success rates
ranging between 40 to 60% in first time patients. The problem is that
the drug has such a hold on the user that it takes time, and usually a
series of stays, with a treatment center.
However, the best way
for meth addiction treatment is to go to a rehab center for a time of
detox and then find a good support group to keep your addiction under
control. The desire is always there and is something that, while might
get easier to live with, can gain control of your life if not monitored
closely with accountability partners.
Treatment For Meth Addiction Is Not A Short Program
The
addiction is so strong, because of the way it acts upon the brain and
creates a desire for the perceived pleasure of the drug, that the
treatment process is not a short 1 month program. Most meth rehab
centers have in place a six-month intense program that helps the person
going through the treatment handle the withdrawals and other physical
problems associated with detoxing and/or the use of the drug itself.
Withdrawals
can be very serious and even derail treatment if the process isn't
handled in a center with professionals able to cope with the symptoms.
These could include any, or all, of the following;
profuse sweating,
fatigue,
very long periods of sleep,
intense hunger,
severe irritability,
severe depression,
psychosis,
and frequent bouts of anxiety.
It
is a long process from the point of addiction to a place where the
addict can begin to function again in society without the need of the
drug.
Treatment is not only on the physical level, but must also
focus on the emotional state of the meth addict. The drug itself
creates its own feeling of euphoria, and a feeling of being
super-human. The person abusing meth believes that they can do
anything. Once that feeling is gone and they are once again susceptible
to pain, fatigue and other emotional problems that they will face
because of life. Professional psychiatric help is paramount to a
successful rehabilitation.
With Treatment Meth Addiction Can Be Beaten
A
normal life can once again be achieved from the life snatching hold
that meth addiction has on someone. It isn't easy, and at times you
will want to quit so that you can ease the withdrawals, but the life
afterwards is much better.
